Agnes Nginya, a hardworking
entrepreneur from Gachoka in Mbeere South Constituency, Embu County, is a
shining example of the power of financial inclusion. Her journey with BIMAS
Microfinance began in 2016, at a time she describes as her lowest point. With
limited income and rising responsibilities, Agnes made a brave decision to join
a chama supported by BIMAS - and it changed her life.
Her first loan of Ksh 30,000 gave birth to a
small retail shop. That humble beginning, paired with her determination and the
structured support from BIMAS, marked the start of an extraordinary rise. Loan
after loan, Agnes faithfully serviced her credit, grew her business, and gradually
climbed the ladder of success. She later acquired two motorbikes for the
bodaboda transport business, and as part of her entrepreneurial spirit, she
mastered how to ride one herself. This has made her business errands more efficient
and significantly reduced her transport costs - giving her more control and
independence in her day-to-day operations.
Agnes did not stop there. With
the ongoing support of BIMAS, she ventured into poultry and goat farming, and
began roasting and wholesaling peanuts across Embu County. Her husband, an
expert in roasting peanuts, works hand-in-hand with her, making theirs a truly
family-run enterprise. Every business move Agnes makes reflects how strategic
financial access can fuel growth, resilience, and self-sufficiency.
But the highlight of her journey?
Agnes proudly says she owns a piece of land and a beautiful two-bedroom
mabati house, and she is clear: this was made possible through BIMAS
financial help. Every iron sheet raised, is a result of intentional
financing that empowered her to dream big and achieve even bigger. She proudly
says, ‘This is not just a shelter, it is a symbol of dignity, stability, and
generational impact.’
In the semi-arid area where she
lives, water scarcity is a common challenge, but through BIMAS’s support, her
family received a large water tank that ensures a steady supply for domestic
and business use. Agnes calls it a “lifesaver.” Education is also easier
to manage now. With stable income, paying school fees for her children is no
longer a struggle. Agnes is proud of how far she has come and is quick to
encourage others to join BIMAS, confidently saying that they too can transform
their lives.
Agnes who is currently servicing
a loan of Ksh 200,000 joyfully encourages others to take the same step she did,
declaring, “Joining BIMAS was the best decision I ever made!” Her story
is a shining example of how BIMAS is driving financial inclusion,
unlocking rural potential, and actively contributing to the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) - particularly in ending poverty, achieving gender
equality, providing access to clean water and sanitation, and supporting decent
work.
