10,000 Policies Milestone: The Impact Of Hosicash On Kenyan Households

On 22nd August 2025, BIMAS Microfinance, in partnership with DD Finance and Old Mutual, marked a historic milestone in Tala town - the issuance of the 10,000th Hosicash policy. The celebration was not just about the numbers; it was about the lives touched, the families protected, and the communities empowered through financial inclusion. Hosicash was launched less than a year ago with a clear mission: to provide affordable hospital and last-expense insurance cover to low- and middle-income households. In just nine months, over 10,000 clients have enrolled, demonstrating the critical need for this product. For many, Hosicash has become more than an insurance policy,  it is a lifeline in times of uncertainty.

Behind every policy is a story of resilience. To date, over 100 successful claims have been processed, giving families immediate relief during moments of hospitalization or loss. Clients who once faced the risk of selling assets, taking on debt, or relying on community fundraisers are now experiencing the dignity of financial preparedness.

During the celebration, successful claimants shared their journeys. Their testimonies revealed a common theme: Hosicash restores hope. One client expressed gratitude for the timely support during a family health crisis, while another noted how the last-expense cover lifted the burden during a time of grief.

The event also recognized the people behind the milestone:

  • Tala Branch, crowned the best-performing branch in policy issuance.

  • The best-performing sales officer from Mwingi branch.

  • Recognition of the 1st policy issued in Nakuru and the 10,000th policy issued in Machakos.

  • Appreciation of the officer responsible for processing claims, ensuring clients receive their benefits without delay.

Their dedication underscores the teamwork and commitment required to drive meaningful financial solutions.

Hosicash is not just about insurance; it is about deepening financial inclusion. By providing access to affordable microinsurance, BIMAS is bridging the gap for individuals and families who would otherwise remain excluded from traditional insurance markets. It is a powerful reminder that financial inclusion is not just about credit but about comprehensive tools that cushion households against life’s uncertainties.

Looking Ahead

The 10,000 policy milestone is only the beginning. BIMAS, together with its partners, remains committed to scaling Hosicash to even more households across Kenya. The vision is to see communities where no family is pushed into poverty because of health expenses or unexpected loss.

As we celebrate this achievement, one thing is clear: Hosicash is more than a product; it is a movement of empowerment, resilience, and inclusion.
